Originating from a traumatic childhood protecting his younger brother Shun after their mother's death, this fierce protectiveness drove him to volunteer for brutal training on Death Queen Island in Shun's stead. Under master Guilty, he endured harsh conditioning harnessing hatred for strength. The accidental death of his beloved Esmeralda by Guilty's hand unleashed Ikki's suppressed rage, compelling him to kill Guilty and seize the Phoenix Cloth. This act ignited his initial descent into vengeance, leading him to command the Black Saints against the Graude Foundation and his fellow Saints.
