Shun de Andrômeda is the Bronze Saint representing the Andromeda constellation. He is the younger brother of Phoenix Ikki and was one of many children gathered by Mitsumasa Kido to train as Saints under Athena. As a child, Shun exhibited a sensitive, non-confrontational nature, frequently relying on Ikki for protection. His training took place on Andromeda Island under Cepheus Daidalos in the manga or Cepheus Albiore in the anime. There, he befriended Chameleon June, his training partner. To earn his Cloth, Shun endured the "Sacrifice of Andromeda" trial, chained to cliffs and escaping drowning by focusing on his bond with Ikki instead of brute force, showcasing his reliance on emotional connections. Shun possesses a gentle, pacifist disposition, consistently avoiding violence unless absolutely necessary. This stems from his belief in resolving conflicts without bloodshed and seeing goodness in others. Despite this reluctance, he demonstrates significant combat prowess when forced to fight. His primary weapon is the Nebula Chain from his Andromeda Cloth, capable of both defensive and offensive maneuvers. These chains extend vast distances, detect threats, and emit electric shocks exceeding 10,000 volts. His techniques include the Nebula Chain for basic attacks, Rolling Defense for protection, and advanced moves like Thunder Wave, Nebula Stream, and the devastating last-resort Nebula Storm. During the Poseidon arc against Scylla Io, he improvised specialized chain techniques including Spider Net, Spiral Duct, Casting Net, Boomerang Shot, Wild Trap, and Great Capture to counter specific assaults. During the Sanctuary arc, Shun participated in the Galaxian Wars tournament, defeating Unicorn Jabu. He joined the rebellion against the corrupted Sanctuary, facing Gold Saints like Gemini Saga and ultimately killing Pisces Aphrodite. In the Hades Chapter - Sanctuary arc, Shun defied Athena's orders to remain behind and followed his fellow Bronze Saints into battle. He attempted unsuccessfully twice to prevent the execution of the Athena Exclamation. A pivotal revelation occurs in the Hades arc when Shun is identified as the chosen human vessel for Hades, the God of the Underworld. This connection exists because he was born under the Virgo constellation and possesses the purest soul of his era. Pandora sought him shortly after birth for Hades's reincarnation, but Shun's pure Cosmos and Ikki's intervention prevented it. He wore a pendant inscribed "Yours Ever," symbolizing his destined bond with Hades. During the confrontation in Elysion, Shun willingly allowed Hades to possess his body to create an opening for Ikki to destroy the god, nearly sacrificing himself. Athena's blood and encouragement later enabled him to expel Hades. In later narratives, Shun appears in various continuations. In Saint Seiya Omega, he retired as a Saint after sustaining a "dark wound" from Mars that spread through his left arm, preventing safe use of his Cosmos. He became a wandering doctor, aiding new protagonists like Kōga and Ryūhō despite the risk. In the canonical sequel Next Dimension, Shun traveled to the 18th century alongside Athena. Separated from her, he encountered Pegasus Tenma and was later proclaimed the future Gold Saint of Virgo, succeeding Virgo Shaka. The spin-off Episode G: Assassin depicts him fulfilling this role while practicing medicine. A gender-swapped version named Shaun exists in the Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya remake. Physically, Shun is noted for his androgynous beauty, often remarked upon. His manga design features brown hair and blue eyes, while the anime adaptation changes these to green. When possessed by Hades, his hair turns black (or red in the anime), his skin pales, and his eyes lighten. His casual attire typically includes a green T-shirt, white overalls with suspenders, and black shoes. During training, he wore blue-toned gear similar to Seiya's. In Omega, he adopted a long-sleeved black shirt under his overalls with red suspenders. Shun achieved several power milestones. He awakened his Seventh Sense during the Sanctuary arc. He briefly wore the Virgo Gold Cloth during the battle against Thanatos. He later attained the Andromeda God Cloth by channeling his Cosmo to protect Ikki from Hypnos, an evolution that added wings to his Cloth.
