Description
Panda-kun is a hamster with distinctive black-and-white fur resembling a panda, owned by the human girl Mimi. He acts as the primary carpenter and builder for the Ham-Ham group, constructing and repairing their many structures. His carpentry work is supported by Mimi's parents, who own a woodworking shop, ensuring his consistent access to materials. His prized creation is the fully functional Ham-Ham Fun Park amusement park with rides. Other notable builds include a sled, the Ham-Ham Express train, a refurbished Jewelry House (completed with help), Skyham's hang glider, and the Panda Car.

His personality is sweet-natured, gentle, and notably more subdued and relaxed than other male Ham-Hams; he often prefers staying on the sidelines during group activities. He possesses a sensitive disposition, becoming particularly distressed when Mimi is upset and actively rallying the Ham-Hams to support her. He shares interests like knitting, as seen in "The Knitting Craze" episode.

Panda-kun shares an extremely close bond with his owner, Mimi. Their relationship is unique, as Mimi is portrayed as the only human who understands the Ham-Hams, leading her to regularly confide in him. He demonstrates strong loyalty and determination in addressing her concerns. Earlier, he harbored a crush on Bijou, expressing it through a desire to build things for her and curiosity about her feelings. This romantic interest faded over time due to Boss's overprotectiveness of Bijou, the perceived number of rival admirers, and Bijou's lack of romantic interest.

He features in two episodes created exclusively for the "Tottoko Hamutaro Dechu" series: "Searching for Memories!" and "Panda Goes to Meet a Panda". These episodes used 3D CGI animation similar to the revised openings and included live-action segments with people in hamster costumes.

A trivia note is that Panda-kun is the only Ham-Ham besides Hamtaro (whose name has minor transliterations in some regions) to retain the same name across nearly all regional adaptations. The sole exception is the Basque dub, where he is named "Potxolo", an affectionate term meaning "darling" or "beloved", reflecting his agreeable and gentle nature.
