Description
Sanada is head maid to the Valhalla Royal Family, utterly devoted to Princess Valkyrie. She arrives on Earth tracking Valkyrie's disappearance, locating her at the Tokino bathhouse in Season 1, episode 3. Discovering Valkyrie in a childlike state due to her shared soul with Kazuto Tokino, Sanada finds the diminutive princess intensely adorable and pledges to stay as her caretaker.
This devotion sometimes leads to extreme actions. A misunderstanding about Kazuto and Akina Nanamura in Season 1 prompts Sanada to create a "catgirl army." Using a specialized ray gun, she transforms local girls into brainwashed cat-eared maids under her command, aiming to eliminate perceived threats to Valkyrie and Kazuto. This results in a confrontation with Akina and Hydra causing significant damage before Kazuto resolves the misunderstanding. Sanada retains this army throughout the series, summoning members with a whistle, though she rarely recalls their individual names and does not reverse their transformation.
Sanada combines fervent admiration for Valkyrie with genuine kindness towards others at the Tokino residence, including Kazuto, his sister Rika, and eventually Akina. However, she harbors persistent animosity toward Princess Laine, stemming from past conflicts over Valkyrie's attention on Valhalla, contrasting her respectful demeanor toward figures like Princess Mehm or Inarba. Sanada adjusts to Earth life, assisting with bathhouse operations and forming a notably closer bond with Princess Mehm by Season 2.
Notable events include a Season 2 incident where defective space bath soap temporarily reverts Sanada to childhood; her catgirl maids then exhibit obsessive behavior mirroring her treatment of Valkyrie. After the effects wear off, Sanada angrily confronts them for failing to aid Valkyrie. In Season 3, she adopts the superhero persona "Cat Eared Maiden" during a spirit stone treasure hunt, later gifting Valkyrie a handmade figure of this alter ego that Valkyrie cherishes. This season also details two instances of Sanada's imprisonment for spying on Valkyrie at Laine and Chorus's residence.
Following the Season 3 finale, where an accident with the Princess Mural splits Valkyrie into separate child and adult entities, Sanada continues serving both forms with undiminished loyalty into Season 4. Her role remains consistent despite this development.
