Description
Amano Jyaku is a half-human, half-demon hybrid from the Jūjinkai. He pursues a centuries-long mission to find the Chōjin, the prophesied Overfiend destined to unite the human, demon, and man-beast realms every 3,000 years, a quest reflecting his extended lifespan.

The manga depicts him as a sociopathic anti-hero with lecherous tendencies. He deceives women into sexual encounters by falsely claiming his sperm repels demons and commits acts like discarding a rescued infant into a river. This version ends with his death during a demon ambush, his body found atop corpses.

Anime adaptations transform him into a more heroic figure. While retaining abrasive traits, he actively protects the Chōjin's human hosts, Tatsuo Nagumo and Akemi Itō, from demons. Motivated by a genuine belief in the prophecy's promise of harmony, he nonetheless faces disillusionment as events unfold. This version spares his life, allowing his continued presence in sequels.

Key relationships define his path: his sister Megumi Amano aids him, depicted as manipulative and vengeful in the manga but supportive and empathetic in the anime. He shares a romantic bond with Mimi Tenno, granddaughter of the Great Elder, whose orgasms grant prophetic visions crucial to his quest. The Great Elder mentors him in the anime yet exiles him in the manga due to his misconduct with Mimi.

His core conflict pits faith against reality. Initially unwavering in his belief that the Chōjin will bring peace, he suffers profound betrayal upon learning the Overfiend’s true purpose: to destroy existing worlds and forge a new, chaotic order. This revelation forces him into a protective role amid apocalyptic devastation, guarding the offspring of the Chōjin's antithesis, the Kyō-Ō, in sequels like *Inferno Road* to stabilize the merged realms.

He possesses near-invincibility in combat, rivaled by few entities across the three realms, alongside enhanced longevity and resilience enabling his long search. Post-apocalypse narratives show his evolution into a pragmatic guardian, balancing cynicism with the duty to mitigate ongoing chaos.

Regionally, he uses a Kansai dialect in the manga, omitted in anime portrayals. Across all media, his arc explores duty, corruption, and the ambiguity of prophecies as he navigates forces beyond his control.
