Rodimus, known as Rodimus Convoy in Japanese media, is a prominent Autobot commander in the Energon narrative. Originally a military leader on Cybertron of stature equal to Optimus Prime, he grew disillusioned by the endless war against the Decepticons. He departed Cybertron with a band of followers, including Prowl and Landmine, seeking escape from the conflict and a new purpose. His journey across the cosmos shifted his focus from warfare to galactic reconstruction and the defense of innocent lives, earning him a legendary reputation and the admiration of Autobots like Hot Shot. A notable past encounter includes a memorable battle against Megatron, which the Decepticon leader himself recalled years later. A defining moment for Rodimus was his failure to protect Planet Q. He had pledged to its ruler, Alpha Quintesson, and chamberlain, Scorponok, that he would return to defend their world against Unicron. When he arrived, however, the planet had already been destroyed by Scorponok in a desperate attempt to wound Unicron, leaving Alpha Q as the only survivor. This tragedy became a personal burden, driving Rodimus to vow atonement by helping Alpha Q restore the annihilated worlds. Rodimus reentered the Autobot-Decepticon war in 2020, intercepting Scorponok’s attempt to steal an energon cache on Mars. Learning that Scorponok now served a resurrected Alpha Q—who sought to use Unicron to rebuild their world—Rodimus agreed to aid them. This mission frequently placed him at odds with Optimus Prime, who focused solely on destroying Unicron. Rodimus considered Prime and his team shortsighted, unable to comprehend his broader vision for cosmic restoration, while Prime viewed Rodimus as an extremist. Nonetheless, Rodimus repeatedly set aside disagreements to unite against greater threats. He commanded a fleet of Blackout Terrorcon drones to destroy one of three comets Megatron launched toward Earth, protected Scorponok from a Decepticon trap, and attempted to recruit allies like Hot Shot and Kicker Jones—though his secretive nature initially led them to decline. His crew eventually grew to include the young Autobot Ironhide, whom he tested and accepted after Ironhide stowed away on his ship. Rodimus later arranged a meeting between Alpha Q, Kicker, and Ironhide to clarify their shared objective. Following a physical altercation between the two leaders, Rodimus and Optimus Prime agreed to a temporary truce to defeat Megatron. As the conflict intensified, Rodimus undertook critical military roles. He spearheaded a mission to inject energon stars into Unicron’s brain to stabilize it, defended Cybertron against Shockblast and Mirage, and saved Hot Shot’s life in combat. This act led to a Powerlinx partnership between them, symbolizing mutual trust. When Optimus Prime was injured, Rodimus assumed command of the Autobots and led an assault on Megatron. After pursuing Decepticons through a spatial rift, Rodimus witnessed Megatron attacking Alpha Q’s newly reborn solar system. He established a beacon to regroup scattered Autobots, reuniting with his team and aiding in Inferno’s rescue on Iron Planet. He played pivotal roles in battles on Jungle Planet and Ocean Planet, securing energon towers to protect the recreated worlds. Later, he commissioned the Autobot Grand Prix on Circuit Planet to provide respite for his troops. Rodimus possesses the Spark of Combination, enabling him to Powerlink with other Transformers, most often with Prowl. He transforms into a hybrid vehicle combining a tractor truck and a hot rod, a design homage to the original Generation 1 Rodimus Prime. In the Dreamwave comic continuity, outside the primary anime narrative, Rodimus participates in actions against Terrorcon invasions alongside Hot Shot but lacks the legendary status he holds in the animated series. A potential future is explored in the Timelines story, where Rodimus is summoned to the Iron Hope following the Unicron Singularity event. He is given command of the Longbow and dispatched to locate lost Autobot colony worlds in the Beta Aquarii system. His official toy biography notes a familial relationship with the Autobot Inferno, identified as his brother.
