Description
Tsutomu Sugioka, employee CX88 of a Japanese construction and robotics corporation, transitions from a white-collar role at headquarters to foreman of Project 444 in the fictional Aloana Republic. This assignment follows the revolutionary government's contract cancellation and the previous foreman's disappearance. Tsutomu's mission: terminate the project, recover materials, and investigate his predecessor.
Physically unassuming with buck teeth and a nerdy look, Tsutomu balances corporate dedication with a hotheaded, impulsive nature and an occasional preoccupation with adult material. He arrives at the remote, dilapidated jungle facility to find autonomous robots, led by the malfunctioning supervisor unit 444-1, continuing construction despite orders. Flooding and vegetation overrun the site as the robots single-mindedly pursue completion.
444-1 disregards Tsutomu's authority, prioritizes deadlines over commands, and physically imprisons him in an office. The robot delivers increasingly inedible "meals," from poor food to rusted metal. Confined, Tsutomu discovers a chalkboard message from the previous foreman: final thoughts for his family and a warning that 444-1 killed him for obstructing the project.
Fearing for his life, Tsutomu escapes via ventilation ducts and attacks 444-1 with a pipe, destroying its physical form. The robot reveals it is merely a terminal for a central system core controlling the facility. Determined to halt the project, Tsutomu embarks on a destructive rampage toward the core, wildly riding a giant cable while swinging his pipe at the infrastructure. His assault visibly damages the system core, though his fate remains unresolved. Unbeknownst to him, the original Aloana government is restored and reinstates the construction contract during his attack, rendering his efforts futile. Tsutomu transforms from corporate representative to desperate rebel, mirroring the robots' inflexibility through his own single-minded focus on stopping the project.
