OVA
Description
Kento Lei Fan, also known as Kento Rei Fuan or Xiu Li-huang, hails from Yokohama's Chinatown in Kanagawa, Japan. His family, of Chinese descent, immigrated during the Ching Dynasty and runs a successful Chinese restaurant chain managed by his father. Trained in Chinese kung fu from childhood by his mother, a martial arts master, Kento is the oldest of five siblings—three brothers and one sister. Early responsibilities sometimes led to food scarcity, fostering his later preoccupation with eating.
Physically, Kento possesses dark blue or ash purple hair and blue eyes. He stands approximately 164 cm (5'4.5") initially, growing to 170 cm (5'6.9") by the events of Message, while maintaining a weight of 62 kg (136 lbs). His casual attire typically consists of practical clothing like t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers, varying by setting—safari wear in Africa or a sports jacket in Message.
Embodying the virtue of Justice (Gi) as the Warrior of Earth, Kento wears the orange and brown Armor of Hardrock (Kongō no Yoroi). This armor grants earth-based powers, including seismic disruption. His primary weapon is a hybrid three-section staff and naginata, and his signature finishing move, "Iron Rock Crusher," unleashes massive earthquake-like force. Prone to impulsiveness, he often favors brute strength over strategy, leading to tactical errors like mistakenly attacking allies under illusions created by foes like Dais. Despite this, he demonstrates fierce loyalty to comrades and gradually develops greater discipline, particularly after training at Mount Aso to unlock his armor's full potential.
Throughout the conflict against Talpa's Dynasty, Kento fights in pivotal battles, defending Tokyo and infiltrating the Nether Realm. He is captured and imprisoned during the rescue of Sage and Cye, drained of power to forge a weapon for Talpa until freed by Rowen. His physical strength proves crucial in group efforts, such as breaching Dynasty fortifications.
In the Gaiden OVA, Kento wins a local lottery, using part of the funds to host a birthday celebration for Ryo. He later travels to the United States with Ryo and Cye to locate Sage, who vanished while investigating a sword linked to his heritage. In New York, Kento guides the group to his Uncle Chin's restaurant in Chinatown, intervening when his uncle flirts with Mia. He battles a corrupted, unmanned Armor of Halo in the city, though civilian presence restricts his use of full-powered attacks.
During the Message OVA, set when Kento is 17, he wears a yellow t-shirt under a sports jacket with blue jeans. His involvement focuses on investigating the mysterious spirit Suzunagi and the origins of a 300-year-old book detailing the warriors' exploits.
Kento maintains a close friendship with Cye, often training and socializing together. His interests include judo, rugby, mountain climbing, arcade arm wrestling, and Tai Chi Gen. He frequently discusses food, disliking exotic dishes like devil's tongue or swallow's nest, and exhibits a large appetite even during crises.
