Her grandparents lead a professional magic troupe called Magic Carat, a group in which her mother was once a performer. Growing up immersed in this world, Mai developed a strong passion for magic and dreams of becoming a great stage magician, inspired by her idol, the legendary magician Emily Howell. Despite her enthusiasm and determination, Mai is naturally clumsy and accident-prone, which makes her inept at performing traditional stage tricks. Mai’s life changes when she encounters a strange, floating light that leads her to a talking mirror fairy named Topo, who takes up residence in her stuffed flying squirrel doll.
