TV-Series
Description
Emily Fujiwara, known as Hazuki Fujiwara in the original Japanese, stands as one of the central witch apprentices. Childhood friends with Doremi Harukaze since kindergarten, she shares a close bond that initially lets her express her feelings only around Doremi. Their friendship anchors the group of witch apprentices, with Emily becoming the second member after Doremi, alongside Aiko Senoo, following an incident where they witnessed magic use and were recruited to maintain secrecy.

Born into wealth, Emily is raised with an emphasis on politeness and formality, though not portrayed as spoiled. Her doting parents, particularly her mother, enroll her in numerous extracurricular activities including violin and ballet, creating a busy lifestyle. This overprotectiveness initially renders her sheltered, passive, and lacking confidence, making her hesitant to express herself for fear of upsetting others. Academically gifted, she ranks as the most intelligent among her friends. Physically, she possesses fair skin, long brown hair typically tied in a ponytail with an orange bow, short bangs, and a long fringe on her left side. Round glasses over her brown eyes make her the only main character with eyewear.

Her personality blends innocence, gentleness, and a strong desire to please others, often prioritizing their happiness over her own. Easily frightened, especially by ghosts, she tends to panic under stress. Despite her shy demeanor, Emily displays stubbornness when adhering to her beliefs and unexpected assertiveness against injustice. She harbors a dislike for frilly dresses and certain foods like meat and cucumber, with some adaptations noting her as vegetarian. A defining aspect of her life involves longstanding romantic feelings for childhood friend Masaru Yada, which cause distress when she perceives threats to their relationship.

As the Orange Witch Apprentice, her magical theme color is orange, symbolized by an orange heart-shaped crystal. Her transformation phrase is "Pretty Witch Hazuki tchi!" and her spell incantation is "Paipai Ponpoi Puwapuwa Puu!" Accompanied by the fairy Rere, whose gentle and caring nature mirrors her own, Emily initially struggles during her first transformation attempt when her glasses snag her dress, requiring Doremi and Aiko’s assistance on her second try. Despite this rocky start, she later emerges as one of the most skilled spellcasters among the initial trio.

Across the series, Emily undergoes significant growth, learning to assert herself, conquer fears, and gain independence. A pivotal moment occurs when she reconciles with Momoko Asuka after initial friction, forging a friendship rooted in shared timidity. She demonstrates maturity while caring for Hana, the magical baby the group raises, often adopting a motherly role and assisting with studies, though sometimes struggling to manage Hana’s mischief. By the final season, her development culminates in choosing a prestigious secondary school separate from Doremi, symbolizing her independence while sustaining their friendship.

Her relationships extend beyond Doremi. She shares a respectful, understanding dynamic with Onpu Segawa, as both are considered mature and feminine. With Aiko Senoo, Emily shifts from initial concern over Aiko’s bluntness to mutual support. Her connection with Masaru evolves from childhood admiration to acknowledged romance. She also forms a meaningful bond with Baaya, her family’s housemaid, who serves as a grandmotherly figure offering wisdom and encouragement.

In the light novel sequels continuing after the anime, Emily reunites with her friends during high school. The novels explore her reengagement with witchcraft as the group collectively becomes witch apprentices again, indicating ongoing magical involvement and personal growth in her teenage years.
