Description
Triton, sole survivor of the Triton merpeople clan genocided 5,000 years ago by the rival Poseidon clan out of envy, was rescued as an infant by the white dolphin Ruka. Hidden in Japanese coastal caves for protection, he was discovered and adopted by a human boy named Kazuya, joining his surface-dwelling family. After a tsunami triggered by Poseidon destroyed Kazuya's village and killed his father, Triton relocated with Kazuya and his mother to Tokyo, exhibiting rapid growth and an innate affinity for water.
Learning his true heritage and his people's destruction upon maturing, Triton abandoned his human life to return to the ocean, launching a quest for vengeance against Poseidon and his numerous offspring. Accompanied by dolphin companions Ruka, Uru, Karu, and Fin, he waged a solitary war. During this conflict, he encountered Pipiko, the last surviving mermaid from his clan, forging an alliance that evolved into partnership and marriage. His campaign systematically targeted Poseidon's 33 children.
A pivotal development came when Triton encountered Ganomosu, an ancient giant turtle. Ganomosu provided counsel and sanctuary, advising Triton to reside on a floating island formed by his grandfather's shell, encircled by protective whirlpools. This proved crucial when Poseidon, through deception, created a destructive offspring using a sponge disguised as Pipiko. Unable to control this new threat, Poseidon sought a truce with Triton, witnessed by Ganomosu. Triton agreed to eliminate the creature in exchange for Poseidon's pledge to cease hostilities. He succeeded by luring the monster onto dry land and exposing it to sunlight.
Following this victory, Triton and Pipiko married and produced seven offspring named after rainbow colors: Blue, Green, Indigo, Yellow, Orange, Red, and Violet Triton. Family life introduced new challenges when humans captured Green Triton during an educational voyage. Triton's rescue attempts led to separation from his children, manipulation by Poseidon's forces framing him for tsunamis, and eventual family reconciliation after exposure of the plot. In the final confrontation, Triton entrusted merpeople leadership to his son Blue Triton and sacrificed himself alongside Ganomosu in a climactic battle against Poseidon, destroying Poseidon's base and resulting in Triton's death.
His legacy endured through his children, who faced continued human threats. Blue Triton, fulfilling his father's role, orchestrated the sinking of their floating island to destroy a mermaid-hunting vessel, then declared permanent separation between humans and merpeople. Pipiko and the children migrated to the dying Ganomosu, who offered his body as their eternal sanctuary, establishing "Ganomosu Island" as their new home.
