Description
Taro Yamada is a first-year student at Kotesashi High School and a member of its baseball team, initially playing first base. Standing 164 cm tall with short brown hair and a calm, friendly appearance, he wears jersey number 3 and throws and bats right-handed.

Before high school, he excelled as catcher for the Akitsu Senior baseball team, earning the nickname "the king of the hill." His confidence shattered after facing the dominant battery of Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname, leading him to quit baseball. He deliberately chose Kotesashi High for its lack of a baseball club.

On his first day there, he encountered Haruka and Kei, discovering Kei had amnesia and abandoned baseball. This reunion prompted Taro to rejoin the sport at Haruka's invitation. He transitioned from catcher to first baseman specifically to better handle Aoi Todo's difficult throws. Though not a prodigy like some teammates, he provides steady defense, consistent batting, and deep fundamental understanding.

Gentle, grounded, and commonsensical, Taro serves as a stabilizing presence among more eccentric teammates. He internalizes feelings but occasionally voices sharp observational monologues about others. Academically capable, he scores over 80 points in every subject. His reliability and calm demeanor earn widespread trust, resulting in his appointment as team captain in his second year, during which his batting order shifted from fifth to second.

His development focuses on overcoming self-doubt and embracing his role as the team's emotional anchor. He articulates a renewed purpose: "We are now going to protect the back of the one who made us quit." His perspective frequently guides the narrative, offering insight into the team's dynamics and growth. His popularity is reflected in series polls, ranking second in the first poll and fifth in the second.
