Description
D'Artacan is an energetic and headstrong anthropomorphic beagle from the Béarn region. Driven to become a Muskehound, this young swordsman travels to Paris seeking to join the elite guard protecting King Louis XIII. His journey follows a pivotal duel with his father, where victory grants him the family heirloom Omega Sword and his father's blessing.

In Paris, he meets and befriends three established Muskehounds: the extroverted Athos, the secretive noble Porthos, and Aramis. Initial misunderstandings give way to a solid friendship, leading them to adopt the motto "One for all, and all for one." D'Artacan develops a romantic interest in Juliette, a maid-in-waiting for Queen Anne of Austria, who becomes involved in political intrigues.

His primary adversaries are the power-hungry fox Cardinal Richelieu, who schemes to seize the French throne, and his stealthy operative, the cat Milady de Winter. D'Artacan's conflicts involve thwarting their plots, such as recovering stolen royal jewelry to prevent war between France and England. He is often accompanied by Pip, a mouse serving as a squire-like figure whose actions both aid and complicate missions.

His beagle design pays homage to Snoopy, emphasizing approachability and tenacity. Adaptations omit the original novel's darker traits like womanizing or alcoholism, aligning with family-oriented storytelling. His development consistently highlights core themes of loyalty, courage, and unity against oppression, resolving conflicts through teamwork and dedication to justice.
