Description
Jam Ojisan, known as Uncle Jam or Mr. Jam, is the creator of Anpanman and other bread-based characters. His appearance mirrors Anpanman's but shows age, with gray hair, fluffy eyebrows, a mustache, and lighter red tints on his cheeks and nose. He always wears a white chef's hat, shirt, pants, apron, and blueish-gray shoes.

Anpanman was born when a "star of life" struck dough in Jam Ojisan's oven, infusing it with life. The infant Anpanman emerged, and Jam Ojisan raised him. Jam Ojisan's extensive youthful travels gave him broad knowledge, reflected in the many books within his bakery. He is also a skilled inventor and mechanic, creating devices like the Anpanman Mobile to aid heroes and repairing mechanical characters.

Profoundly kind, warm, and committed to helping others, Jam Ojisan encourages everyone, famously urging Anpanman to "always do his best." He maintains a paternal bond with Anpanman, whom he created and raised. He extends similar guardianship to creations like Melonpanna and Creampanda, supporting their growth. Despite Rollpanna's antagonism due to an implanted "blue heart," he repeatedly invites her to join the bakery community, reflecting enduring hope for her redemption.

He shares a close, familial bond with Batako, clarified as non-biological. They cohabit platonically; a line in Akachaman's debut episode suggests he may have known her since infancy. His pet dog, Cheese, accompanies him, though their bond is less close than with Batako. He assists heroic allies like Shokupanman and Currypanman, though Currypanman's origin as his creation is inconsistently referenced across media.

Within the series' lore, Jam Ojisan and Batako are identified as fairies, as humans do not exist in Anpanman World. Early printed material depicted him smoking a pipe, an element omitted in later adaptations. Originally unnamed in 1973 picture books and referred to generically as "uncle" or "old man," he later acquired his current identity.

His ongoing role involves baking replacement heads for Anpanman when damaged or depleted and inventing solutions to support the protagonists. His background and dedication to nurturing through culinary and mechanical means remain consistent across all media, including films and spin-offs.
