Description
Jam Ojisan created Anpanman and serves as his paternal figure. He unintentionally brought Anpanman to life when a celestial "star of life" imbued an anpan baking in his oven with sentience. This act established his foundational role as the originator of the primary hero and several other bread-based characters.

He operates a bakery that functions as the central hub for the heroic characters. There, he continuously bakes replacement heads for Anpanman and others when their heads sustain damage or lose vitality, a critical process for restoring their strength. His culinary expertise extends beyond bread, encompassing a wide range of dishes. He possesses encyclopedic knowledge of the world, gained during extensive travels in his youth.

His significant mechanical aptitude is evidenced by his invention and maintenance of specialized vehicles like the Anpanman Mobile and various hero devices. He demonstrates practical skills such as motorcycle riding and showcases unexpected versatility through undisclosed abilities.

Within the bakery community, he shares a close, familial bond with his assistant, Batako-san. Their relationship, while explicitly non-consanguineous, reflects deep mutual care and a long-standing partnership, potentially dating back to Batako's infancy. He assumes a nurturing, paternal role: raising Anpanman since creation, acting as a supportive figure to Melonpanna, and encouraging the growth of Creampanda. His interactions with Rollpanna involve persistent invitations to join the bakery family despite the danger posed by her dual hearts, indicating a compassionate desire to integrate her.

A significant narrative event occurred in the 1993 special "Sore Ike! Anpanman: Kieta Jam Ojisan," where his unexplained disappearance formed the central plot, highlighting his importance to the universe's stability. Later, the 2008 DVD compilation "Soreike! Anpanman Daisuki Character Series / Jam Ojisan" featured episodes exploring his character, including "Jam Ojisan to Jam Baikinman" and "Jam Ojisan no Himitsu."

Conceptually, Jam Ojisan and Batako-san are considered fairies within the lore, as the Anpanman World contains no humans despite their appearances. Early depictions, like in the original 1973 picture book and manga, showed him smoking a pipe, a characteristic omitted from all animated adaptations and later publications. His age is visually suggested by gray hair, fluffy eyebrows, a mustache, and lighter red cheek and nose coloration compared to Anpanman. He consistently wears a baker's uniform: a white hat, shirt, pants, apron, and blue-gray shoes.
