Description
Jam Ojisan is a gentle, skilled baker renowned for crafting beloved bread-based heroes like Anpanman, Melonpanna, Rollpanna, and occasionally Currypanman. His aged appearance features gray hair, fluffy eyebrows, a mustache, and faintly rosy cheeks and nose, complementing his classic chef’s uniform: white hat, shirt, pants, apron, and blue-gray shoes. A resourceful inventor and mechanic, he designs advanced mecha such as the Anpanman Mobile and repairs mechanical allies, drawing wisdom from his youthful travels and a bakery filled with well-worn books.

He acts as a fatherly mentor to Anpanman, having nurtured him since infancy and instilling a commitment to justice, while also guiding Melonpanna and Creampanda with steadfast support. Though allies like Shokupanman and Currypanman vary in origin across media, he consistently extends compassion to creations like Rollpanna, persistently inviting her to join the bakery despite her conflicts. His life intertwines with Batako, sharing a familial bond despite no blood relation, and he cherishes his loyal dog, Cheese.

Originally depicted with a pipe in early manga—a detail later removed—his name first appeared ambiguously as “uncle” or “old man” in the 1973 picture book. Speculation suggests he and Batako may be fairies, as humans are absent in their world. His legacy centers on accidentally breathing life into Anpanman via a celestial spark, forging his enduring duty to replace the hero’s damaged head. Blending culinary artistry, mechanical genius, and paternal care, he remains a cornerstone of moral and technical resilience, empowering protagonists through countless trials.
