Description
Jam Ojisan, alternatively called Uncle Jam or Mr. Jam, serves as the creator of Anpanman and numerous other bread heroes within the Anpanman universe. His portrayal remains consistent across all media, including the film "Soreike! Anpanman: Black Nose to Mahō no Uta."

He embodies a kind, warm-hearted elderly figure possessing deep knowledge and expertise in baking bread. Visually, he resembles Anpanman but is distinguished by gray hair, fluffy eyebrows, a mustache, and lighter red tints on his cheeks and nose. His typical attire consists of a white chef's hat, shirt, pants, apron, and blueish-gray shoes.

Jam Ojisan unintentionally brought Anpanman to life when a shooting star landed in his oven during an anpan baking session. This event established his enduring role as a creator and guardian. His skills extend beyond baking to include inventing and repairing mechanical devices like the Anpanman Mobile, knowledge gained through extensive travels in his youth and reflected in his extensive book collection.

Compassion and a desire to help others define his personality. He acts as a paternal figure to Anpanman, raising him and encouraging him to always do his best. This care extends to his other creations: he supports Melonpanna as a father figure and nurtures Creampanda as an adoptive child. He maintains a complex relationship with Rollpanna, whom he created as Melonpanna's sister; despite her evil tendencies triggered by hero proximity, he persistently invites her to join the bakery inhabitants, showing an enduring soft spot for her.

Jam Ojisan shares a close, familial-like bond with his bakery assistant, Batako; though explicitly unrelated, they care deeply for each other. He is also closely associated with his pet dog, Cheese. Within the Anpanman world, neither he nor Batako are human; they are considered fairies, as humans do not exist in this universe.

A recurring aspect of his role involves baking replacement heads for Anpanman, who frequently sacrifices parts of his head to feed starving creatures. This act highlights Jam Ojisan's foundational purpose: sustaining the hero’s ability to aid others. His mechanical inventions further support the heroes' missions against threats like Baikinman.

Early depictions in the original 1973 picture book and manga featured him smoking a pipe, an element omitted in later adaptations. His name was initially absent in the earliest materials, where he was referred to simply as "uncle" or "old man."
