Description
Jam Ojisan, also known as Uncle Jam, is a kindly, warm-hearted baker who operates a forest bakery. His extensive knowledge, gathered from travels during his youth, fills the many books in his room. He unintentionally brought Anpanman to life when a "star of life" fortuitously landed in his oven as he baked an anpan, marking Anpanman's birth and establishing Jam Ojisan as both creator and primary caregiver. He raised Anpanman from infancy, nurturing a father-son bond built on encouragement and support.
Jam Ojisan is connected to the origins of characters such as Melonpanna and Rollpanna. While early media implied he created Currypanman, this was later revised, with Currypanman's theme song indicating his origins are unknown. Beyond baking, Jam Ojisan is a skilled cook capable of preparing diverse dishes and a proficient mechanic who invents and repairs machines, including the Anpanman Mobile. His knowledge spans nearly all subjects within the Anpanman World.
He lives and works alongside Batako, his assistant. Though their meeting remains undefined, they share a familial, non-blood relationship and collaborate in caring for bakery inhabitants like Cheese the dog and mentoring younger characters such as Creampanda. The bakery serves as a hub for heroes, where Jam Ojisan provides essential support by baking replacement heads for Anpanman to restore his strength and flight whenever he is damaged, dirtied, or partially consumed. He offers similar aid to other bread-based heroes like Shokupanman and Currypanman, providing mechanical assistance or bakery resources.
His relationship with Rollpanna involves repeated attempts to welcome her into the bakery family despite her conflicting allegiances due to her evil blue heart. Within the lore of the Anpanman World, Jam Ojisan and Batako are regarded as fairies, as humans do not exist in this universe.
Jam Ojisan's appearance includes fluffy eyebrows, a mustache, rosy cheeks, and a lighter nose tint compared to Anpanman, with gray hair indicating his age. He typically wears a white chef's hat, shirt, pants, apron, and bluish-gray shoes. Early print media depicted him with a pipe, though this was omitted in later adaptations.
