Description
Hiroshi Tateno transfers into Class 5-3 at Doumori Elementary at the series start, recognizable in his white sleeveless shirt, blue shorts, and blue jacket. Academically, he struggles intensely, holding some of the worst grades in his class and setting a record for consecutive zero scores on tests; this lack of prowess frequently draws him into supernatural encounters.

His personality blends early pridefulness with strong protective instincts toward classmates, even against supernatural threats. He exhibits courage and a hot-blooded, action-oriented approach, often positioning himself as an unofficial leader during crises. A passionate soccer player, he dreams of becoming a professional athlete. His abilities center on soccer, which he later integrates with spiritual techniques like the Sutra of the White-Robed Goddess for exorcisms.

Initially skeptical of his teacher Meisuke Nueno's exorcism abilities, his perspective shifts dramatically after Nueno saves him from a yokai possessing his feet, transforming Hiroshi into one of Nueno's most loyal supporters. He endures traumatic events, including an encounter with the serial killer "A" that leaves lasting psychological effects on him and classmate Kyoko Inaba.

Later, Hiroshi achieves his dream, becoming a globally renowned soccer player frequently competing in international tournaments like the World Cup. During a return to Japan, he mentors a jealous student, Kento Kita, advising against self-doubt and emphasizing individual talents. Concurrently, he navigates a romantic relationship with Kyoko Inaba, which faces moments of conflict—such as her misunderstanding over his manager Artelina—and reconciliation.

A significant subplot involves a severe leg injury sustained during his career, requiring high-risk surgery with only a 10% success rate. He initially conceals this from Kyoko, but confesses the truth after intervention from Nueno and Artelina. The surgery ultimately succeeds. Before returning to Italy, he proposes to Kyoko with a wedding ring.

In the epilogue, he marries Kyoko and relocates to Italy. He makes brief appearances in spin-offs like *Reibaishi Izuna: Ascension*, where time-travel events revisit his past. His relationships include a friendly dynamic with Miki Hosokawa and a rivalry-turned-romance with Kyoko Inaba, evolving from friction to mutual commitment. His bond with Nueno deepens from initial coldness to profound respect and loyalty following the exorcism of the yokai in his feet.
