Description
Iku Kasahara serves in the Library Defense Force's Kantō Library Base, advancing from Library Clerk First Class to Library Clerk Supervisor. She joined in 2019 following a decisive childhood encounter: an unidentified high-ranking member protected her from Media Betterment Committee agents trying to confiscate a book she wanted to buy. This event inspired her goal to become an "ally of justice," dedicating herself to safeguarding books and intellectual freedom. She long referred to her rescuer as her "prince," unaware of his identity.

Her high school track and field participation fostered notable athleticism and stamina, assets for her demanding role. Academic proficiency proved challenging, particularly during base lectures, partly because her university lacked necessary courses for library qualification, forcing her to take night classes.

Family dynamics significantly shape her character. Her mother strongly opposes her career, citing its danger and lack of femininity, stemming from an incident where Kasahara sustained serious injuries falling from a tree. Her father initially aligned with her mother but later opposed demands for Kasahara to quit, creating familial distance and conflict.

Recruit training under strict instructor Atsushi Dojo presented challenges; he subjected her to heightened scrutiny and rigorous demands. Despite early shortcomings—including recklessness, occasional disobedience toward superiors, and critical errors like failing to secure a criminal, endangering Dojo—she demonstrated unwavering commitment to protecting books and intellectual freedom. Her physical capabilities, moral resolve, and these traits led to her selection for the elite Library Task Force. This decision was influenced by Dojo acknowledging his own inadequate training of her, plus recommendations from Task Force Captain Ryusuke Genda and officer Mikihisa Komaki. Within the Task Force, she gradually improved in combat effectiveness and library clerical duties, though she initially struggled to assert herself confidently under Dojo's command.

Her relationship with Dojo evolved from friction to mutual respect and romantic involvement as she recognized his underlying care and dedication, contrasting her initial perception of harshness. They began dating and eventually married. During the events depicted in the animated film *Library War: The Wings of Revolution*, Kasahara and Dojo were recalled from a date to protect author Touma Kurato during escalating tensions between the Library Defense Force and the Media Betterment Committee. In a subsequent confrontation, Dojo sustained serious injuries, including memory loss (agnosia). Kasahara provided steadfast support throughout his crisis, demonstrating loyalty and emotional resilience.

Her core personality combines a tough exterior with underlying compassion, strong protective instincts toward books, and a resolute sense of justice regarding freedom of expression. She shares similarities with Dojo in work ethic and moral compass, as noted by Komaki. Her determination often leads her to challenge orders she deems unjust, reflecting her idealism and commitment to the Library Defense Force's principles.
