Ai Kodama is the adoptive sister of Hikaru Kodama, a nurse at St. Juliana Hospital. She suffers from severe heart problems that require constant medical supervision and frequent hospitalizations, making her deeply dependent on her sister’s support and care. Within the OVA Night Shift Nurses: Kranke, Ai expresses a desire to become a “real woman,” a wish influenced by her uncertain memories or dreams of intimate encounters between Hikaru and Dr. Ryuji Hirasaka. In response, Dr. Hirasaka designs an experimental psychological intervention intended to foster her emotional maturation, which includes facilitating an intimate encounter between Ai and Hikaru. Ai later dismisses this experience as merely a vivid dream.
