Kanae serves as a priest in a church on the outskirts of Planie, a town gripped by a supernatural plague that turns humans into undead creatures. His arrival coincides with a marked decline in new plague cases, leading townspeople to view him as a stabilizing force amid the crisis. He performs standard priestly duties—offering prayers, hearing confessions, and providing spiritual guidance—while consistently wearing a gentle smile to comfort those around him.

He travels with a black cat companion named Roto. In Planie, his solitary life shifts when he encounters a mysterious man revealed as Alexander Lagusa, a vampire from the Devildom on a mission. Their meeting sparks a joint investigation that uncovers ties between the undead plague and an escaped sorcerer pursued by Lagusa. Recognizing shared objectives, Kanae and Lagusa forge an alliance to confront this threat.
