Spectra Phantom, born Keith Fermin, is the son of Clay Fermin and older brother of Mira Fermin. Initially training Mira in Bakugan techniques as a caring sibling, he later adopted the Spectra Phantom identity to lead the Vexos organization. Concealing his identity with a distinctive red mask and feathered coat, he utilized voice-altering technology within the mask. His primary partner was the Pyrus-attribute Bakugan Helios, later Helios MK2. As Vexos leader, Spectra pursued power ruthlessly, prioritizing the creation of the Ultimate Bakugan and conquest of Vestal. He employed forbidden ability cards, threatened hostages like Runo Misaki to manipulate Dan Kuso, and destroyed Bakugan in experiments without remorse. Despite his cruelty, he maintained a latent connection to Mira and loyalty to his aide Gus Grav. Framed for the Dimension Controllers' collapse, he betrayed the Vexos, fleeing with Gus as fugitives. His final battle with Dan Kuso triggered a redemption arc. Abandoning the Spectra persona, he reverted to Keith Fermin and joined the Bakugan Battle Brawlers Resistance. He reconciled with Mira, aided New Vestroia's evacuation during the Bakugan Termination System crisis, and occasionally reused his Spectra gear in combat while firmly aligning with the Resistance. In Mechtanium Surge, Keith adopted the Darkus attribute, reflecting his enduring quest for strength. His partner evolved into Darkus Infinity Helios, and he utilized new tools like the Doomtronic Battle Suit and Mechtogan Slynix. Piloting the Vestal Destroyer with Gus, he countered Mag Mel and the Chaos Army, directing his aggressive tactics toward protecting Earth and supporting the Battle Brawlers—including stabilizing Drago's powers during conflicts with the rogue Mechtogan Zenthon. His appearance evolved to a black-and-purple mask and outfit with two visible eyeholes, retaining his spiked blond hairstyle in a restyled form. Post-redemption, he blended strategic cunning and combat intensity with loyalty to allies, expressing frustration at Dan Kuso’s leadership lapses yet consistently intervening to assist—even attempting sacrifice for the team’s escape from Interspace. His bond with Gus Grav endured through mutual loyalty, while his rivalry with Dan evolved into partnership. He worked to rebuild trust with his father Clay Fermin and openly opposed Zenoheld’s tyranny.
