Description
Danma "Dan" Kūsō, internationally known as Daniel "Dan" Kuso, is the central protagonist of the *Bakugan* anime series, including *Gundalian Invaders*. His character develops significantly across multiple seasons.

In *Gundalian Invaders*, the approximately 16-year-old Dan relocates to Bayview City with his family, where Julie Makimoto becomes his neighbor. He dominates the virtual battling platform Bakugan Interspace, created by Marucho Marukura, holding the top rank until a disqualification during a match against Anubias strips him of his position. Early in the season, Dan experiences a psychic vision depicting Bakugan in interstellar warfare, a vision that proves prophetic, connecting to the conflict between Neathia and Gundalia. Dan, alongside Shun Kazami and Marucho, is recruited by Ren Krawler—a Gundalian agent posing as an ally—to defend Gundalia against Neathia. Princess Fabia Sheen of Neathia reveals Ren's deception, exposing Gundalia as the aggressor. Dan and the Battle Brawlers subsequently align with Neathia, forming the Castle Knights to protect the planet. During this conflict, Dan temporarily wears specialized Neathian combat armor resembling stormtrooper gear, trimmed in red and gold with blue markings. His primary partner remains the Pyrus Bakugan Drago, who evolves multiple times: from Helix Dragonoid to Lumino Dragonoid (after receiving "The Element" from Neo Ziperator), then to Blitz Dragonoid (post-victory over Dragonoid Colossus), and finally to Titanium Dragonoid (after defeating Phantom Dharak and gaining powers from Code Eve). Dan utilizes Battle Gear including Silver Jetkor, Silver Explosix Gear, and Silver Axator Gear, alongside Mobile Assault Vehicles Pyrus Raytheus and Pyrus Jakalier. He temporarily acquires other Bakugan like Darkus Venoclaw from Taylor and Ventus Ziperator from Sein, and briefly swaps Hawktor with Shun.

Dan's personality evolves across the series. Initially characterized by impulsiveness and overconfidence, he prioritizes winning without strategy. This recklessness strains his partnership with Drago, culminating in Dan discarding Drago after a loss caused by his actions. Following defeat by Ryo and reconciliation with Drago, Dan adopts greater tactical awareness, enabling him to compete against elite brawlers. While easily frustrated and eager to battle, he matures by *Gundalian Invaders*, demonstrated when calmly directing Jake Vallory to rebuild a shield generator post-victory. He maintains strong loyalty, particularly to Drago, and believes in redemption for former adversaries like Ren Krawler. However, he exhibits inconsistency, such as chastising Marucho for grieving Preyas while despairing over Drago’s capture. His psychic abilities intensify in later seasons, including telepathy and clairvoyance linked to the "Switch Code" with Drago, though this also renders him vulnerable to mental attacks from antagonists like Mag Mel.

Dan's appearance adapts per season. In *Gundalian Invaders*, he wears a white-collared red jacket with sleeves rolled to his forearms, elliptical goggles, dark trousers with red-outlined pockets tucked into blue-and-black sneakers, and a silver/aluminum-buckled belt. His outfits consistently incorporate fingerless gloves, goggles in his hair, and a BakuPod on his wrist.

Beyond *Gundalian Invaders*, Dan's journey spans earlier and later arcs. In the original *Bakugan Battle Brawlers*, he lives in Wardington and forms the Battle Brawlers to protect Vestroia from Naga. In *New Vestroia*, he aids Drago in liberating New Vestroia from the Vestals. *Mechtanium Surge* sees him relocating to Bakugan City, where his partnership with Drago evolves into Fusion Dragonoid, and he temporarily partners with Haos Reptak. His battle record fluctuates: three losses in season one, three in *New Vestroia*, three in *Gundalian Invaders*, and eight in *Mechtanium Surge*.

Relationships define key aspects of his character. His bond with Drago deepens from initial friction to mutual devotion, exemplified by Dan entering the Doom Dimension to stay with Drago. He frequently clashes with Runo Misaki, though they share underlying affection. With allies like Shun, Marucho, and later Jake and Fabia, Dan values teamwork but occasionally disregards their counsel due to stubbornness. He maintains familial ties with parents Miyoko and Shinjiro Kuso.
