Description
Mark Gordon, originally named Ippei Mine in Japanese, is an 18-year-old rodeo champion orphaned young. His mother died saving him from wolves, a trauma he misinterpreted as abandonment, fostering a bitter, cynical, and aloof personality despite his coolness under pressure. Forced into early independence, he survived through odd jobs and street life, cultivating a resilient yet abrasive demeanor.

In the live-action adaptation *Voltes V: Legacy*, Mark is Filipino-American. Returning to the Philippines, he voluntarily enrolled in Camp Big Falcon, a military base defending Earth against Boazanian invaders. He maintains a close bond with his horse, Alpha (replacing the anime's Eiffel), kept at the base. Mark pilots the Volt Bomber, forming Voltes V's arms, and consistently wears a blue uniform.

He demonstrates exceptional piloting skills and combat proficiency, including horseback riding and whip handling honed in rodeo. His technical expertise extends to battlefield tactics, evident when he defied orders during a hostage situation involving the youngest Armstrong brother, nearly endangering the mission.

Mark displays frequent antagonism, particularly towards Steve and Bert Armstrong, often blaming them for misfortunes and provoking conflicts. He harbors a romantic interest in teammate Jamie Robinson, frequently flirting and preparing gestures like cooking Japanese dishes she enjoys. Their temporary relationship ended when Jamie admitted using him to make Steve jealous, leading Mark to adopt a strictly professional stance. Grief over parental figure Dr. Richard Smith's death reveals deeper emotional vulnerability.

Character development occurs through key experiences: He apologized to the Armstrong brothers after reconciling the truth about his mother's sacrifice, recognizing parallels to their mother Mary Ann's devotion. During a mission rescuing Boazanian slaves, he shifted from his anime counterpart's confrontational role to assisting the humanitarian effort, demonstrating increased empathy. Despite persistent team conflicts, his commitment to Earth's defense remains unwavering.
