Niño Panda, known affectionately as Panny or Pan-chan, is a young panda who flees the zoo with his father, Papa Panda. They find refuge in Mimiko's bamboo grove house, an ideal panda habitat. There, they forge an unconventional family: Mimiko becomes Panny's adoptive mother and Papa Panda her father figure. Physically, Panny embodies a baby panda with small stature, rounded features, and a playful demeanor. His movements and expressions radiate childlike curiosity and innocence. Personality-wise, he shows deep affection and attachment to Mimiko, often following her despite instructions to stay home. This loyalty leads to mischief, like trailing her to school and causing commotion. His inherent playfulness drives story events, from encounters with bullies to spontaneous explorations. Key narrative moments showcase his traits. Separated from Mimiko and Papa Panda during an outing, he rolls down a hill and drifts on debris toward a dangerous floodgate, requiring a rescue by Mimiko, Papa Panda, authorities, and zoo staff. Later, he befriends Tiny, a lost baby tiger, and accompanies him to a circus. Attempting to mimic Tiny's balancing act, Panny disrupts the show, provokes a chase by circus personnel, and accidentally crashes into the tiger cage. During a severe storm in the circus story, Panny helps free animals from a stranded train. His playful antics inside inadvertently set the train moving, creating a runaway threat to the town, averted by Papa Panda's intervention. Throughout these narratives, Panny remains central to the non-traditional family, contributing to their cooperative problem-solving during crises and sharing daily routines like meals and musical celebrations. His actions consistently stem from innocence and a desire for companionship.
