Midori Yamabuki, who becomes Midori Norimaki after marriage, is first introduced as a teacher at Penguin Village Middle School. She later becomes the surrogate mother to Arale Norimaki and marries Senbei Norimaki, with whom she has two children, Turbo and Nitro Norimaki.
Midori possesses distinctive big, curly blonde hair, though her design was later altered to brown hair in the remake. She bears a strong resemblance to another character, Akane, a likeness which has been used for comedic effect, such as when Akane impersonated her to trick Senbei.
She is generally friendly, kindhearted, and dedicated to her students, though she can become angry on occasion. After her marriage, she is also portrayed as somewhat ditzy and scatterbrained.
Her backstory reveals that as a child, she accidentally wandered onto a spaceship and was taken to Planet Takeya-Saodake. There, she was adopted by the planet's childless royal family, King Saodake and Queen Takeya. She was eventually returned to Earth but promised to succeed the throne if the need ever arose.
Senbei Norimaki falls in love with her at first sight. After many unsuccessful attempts to win her affection, he inadvertently proposes marriage while speaking to himself near a bathroom, unaware that Midori is inside and can hear him. She immediately accepts, and they marry soon after.
Following their marriage, Midori gives birth to a son, Turbo, who later develops psychic powers after an encounter with an alien spacecraft. In a later story set around the time of "Dragon Ball GT," Midori and Senbei are shown to have a second child, a daughter named Nitro.
Midori appears in crossovers with the "Dragon Ball" series. She is present when Goku visits Penguin Village to repair his Dragon Radar and offers him cookies. She also witnesses Arale's defeat of General Blue. In "Dragon Ball Super," she is seen shopping with her son Turbo and is briefly greeted by Arale. Like other residents of Penguin Village, she shows no signs of aging over time.
She also accompanies the Norimaki and Soramame families to a summer resort that turns out to be a haunted castle in another adventure, where the group is targeted by a female vampire named Vandora.
