Description
Sally Land serves as a main protagonist, introduced fleeing the Empire in the series' first episode. She is a first-generation migrant from Planet Zi, arriving on Earth roughly 30 years after the initial wave. Her journey involved deep sleep stasis, halting her aging process. This results in her appearing younger than her chronological age while being biologically older than companions like Leo Conrad. Upon arrival, she initially required a breathing mask due to Earth's atmosphere, but exposure to the Zoid Factor during the Beast Liger's awakening event in episode 1 resolved this condition.
She is the granddaughter of Dr. Walter Borman, overseer of the failed "Zi-Forming" terraforming project. Before disappearing to evade the Empire, Borman entrusted her with a pendant. This pendant proves central to the plot: it awakens the Zoid Factor in Leo Conrad and later Frank Land, locates Regeneration Cubes (artifacts from the failed terraforming effort), and functions as an unlimited energy source for the Omega Rex's Charged Particle Cannon. These properties make Sally a primary Imperial target.
Her biological father is Dr. Frank Land, an Empire researcher. An accident during his research and her prolonged stasis led Sally to initially not recognize him, creating a strained dynamic. This is complicated by Hannah Melville, Frank Land's adoptive daughter. Sally and Hannah share a troubled relationship, partly stemming from Hannah's reverence for Dr. Land despite Sally being his biological child.
Initially depicted as a damsel in distress, Sally evolves into a cheerful and friendly individual who values relationships. She forms a romantic bond with Leo Conrad and maintains close friendships, including with Republican archaeologist Jo Aysel. Sally feels responsibility for Leo's physical transformation, as her pendant triggered the event that turned his arm metallic. Her narrative centers on searching for her grandfather, activating Regeneration Cubes, and protecting her pendant from Imperial forces.
