Description
Chief Engineer Curtis Lawson commands TERRA's technological development as a pivotal faction figure and genius engineer. Confronting the degraded reflexes of 30th-century humans, he conceived and deployed a time machine, recruiting skilled pilots from 1999 AD. His first recruit was Yamamoto Yohko, brought to 2999 AD to pilot starships in TERRA's war games against NESS.
Beyond time travel, Lawson engineered the teleportation systems within TERRA's starships. These systems ensured pilots safely returned to the mothership upon spacecraft destruction, eliminating actual combat casualties. Despite facilitating the war games, Lawson later sought to sever the connection between the recruited pilots and the future. He traveled back to 1999 AD intending to prevent Yohko and her teammates from returning to TERRA's timeframe, motivated by concern for their escalating dangers. The recruited girls intervened and halted his plan.
Lawson shares a significant personal history with Sara Dread, a figure linked to the antagonistic force Zenga. This history surfaced during the Sakura Taurus incident, where Lawson unsuccessfully attempted to persuade Sara to abandon Zenga and join him. His character blends technological ambition with protective instincts, driving key narrative developments through his creations and choices.
