Description
Yoshino Doua, bearing the aliases Kuichiru and Towa, possesses mixed Japanese and Ainu heritage. Abandoned in infancy, she grew up within an Ainu household in Hokkaido yet always felt like an outsider despite embracing their culture. In her youth, she met Isaku and his father, forging a particularly close bond with Isaku. Distressed by receiving the traditional Ainu lip tattoo—a marking she believed wasn't hers to bear—she departed her adoptive home, convincing Isaku to join her. Their journey began with survival through begging and petty theft, but her methods escalated to violence; she attacked and killed those denying them food or resources, a path Isaku condemned.

Physically small and youthful, likely aged 13-16, she exhibits notable speed and agility. Her distinctive appearance features a checkered hat reinforced with internal iron plating, used defensively in combat. Her primary weapon is a dagger crafted from a spearhead, sometimes called "4 Go-Roju." She also wields iron chains concealed within her hat.

Fiery and impulsive, Doua readily provokes fights, her recklessness frequently endangering both herself and Isaku. Despite her volatile nature, she forms a genuine friendship with Asano Rin. She harbors deep admiration for Anotsu Kagehisa, leader of the Ittō-ryū, who later provides her with a novel to improve her literacy; inspired by this book, she adopts the surname "Yoshino."

Her combat style is aggressively offensive, perfectly complementing Isaku's defensive techniques. Their partnership relies on coordinated tactics: she attacks with her dagger and speed while Isaku blocks with his armored arms. She is credited with numerous kills, including four Go-Roju members and ten Edo castle guards. Joining the Ittō-ryū as one of its few female members, she participates in the group's campaigns, though her ultimate fate remains unspecified. She expressed a desire to cross the sea to "someplace where nobody knows me."

Key relationships define her journey: her foundational bond with Isaku, her motivating reverence for Anotsu driving literacy and her name change, and her unexpected friendship with Rin adding complexity within the Ittō-ryū's conflicts.
