O-Hatsu, also called Hatsu, is a geisha at the Yukimuchi brothel, which is frequented by members of the Ittō-ryū. She shares a friendly relationship with the swordswoman Makie Otono-Tachibana, rooted in their common history as former prostitutes. After Makie leaves the Ittō-ryū, O-Hatsu encounters her while returning to the red-light district and invites her to come along. Makie declines the offer and departs.
