Description
Dr. Isaac Gilmore, a scientist specializing in cybernetics, initially worked for the Black Ghost organization. He participated in creating the 00 Cyborgs, nine individuals forcibly converted into cybernetic weapons. Developing moral objections to Black Ghost's unethical human experimentation and weaponization goals, his concerns intensified after witnessing the near-fatal failure of a substandard heart component installed in Cyborg 005 against his advice. This led to his defection. He orchestrated the cyborgs' escape from captivity with the aid of the infant psychic Cyborg 001. Following their escape, he became their primary ally, mentor, and surrogate father figure.

Gilmore provides ongoing technical support, performing essential maintenance and repairs on the cyborgs' inorganic components to ensure their survival. He also develops system upgrades, such as enhancing Cyborg 009's Accelerator module for near-light speed travel. His scientific expertise extends beyond cybernetics, enabling him to build advanced machines and provide crucial knowledge across fields like geography and science. He leverages his network within the scientific community to investigate anomalies.

Generally wise and kind, he can display a quick temper. Gilmore acts as a steadfast guardian and advisor within the cyborg team's found family dynamic. After Black Ghost's apparent defeat, he continues supporting the cyborgs from his laboratory. During a period of peace depicted in *Cyborg 009 Gekijō Ban: Chō Ginga Densetsu*, while other cyborgs pursue civilian lives, he remains at the lab with Cyborg 001. When the cosmic threat Zoa emerges, his laboratory serves as the team's reunion point. He assists their space mission by maintaining their systems and providing logistical support.

His background details vary across adaptations. Age is often unspecified, though the 2001 anime places his birth in 1938 (making him 63). Creator notes for the "God's War" storyline list his age as 77 in 2012. His exact ethnicity is inconsistently portrayed; often undefined, the 2001 anime identifies him as a Russian Jew, aligning with some creator notes citing Jewish heritage. Earlier adaptations suggested American or Italian origins. His birthdate is consistently January 25.

Physically, he is typically depicted as a short man in his mid-60s with spiky grey hair combed back, black eyes, and a large bulbous nose. He commonly wears a brown suit, an oversized red bow tie, brown pants, and dark brown shoes.
