TV-Series
Description
Retsu Seiba, also called Let's, is one of the two central characters. At 11 years old and in fifth grade, he is the older brother of Go Seiba by one year. He possesses distinct red hair, matching red eyes, and stands 124 cm tall. A signature green hat is almost permanently worn, removed only for sleep or school. His primary color motif is red, seen in his hair, eyes, gloves, and racing machines. Initial outfits feature a white vest, red t-shirt, green shorts, and green-yellow shoes, later replaced by long-sleeved and long-pants team uniforms during the World Grand Prix (WGP).
Personality contrasts with Go's impulsiveness. He exhibits greater patience and analytical capabilities, approaching racing with strategic foresight to recognize advantages or risks. While equally competitive, his demeanor remains generally levelheaded and mature for his age, though capable of annoyance during arguments with Go. He upholds a strict belief in fair competition, rejecting weaponized tactics or underhanded tricks to secure victory. This ethical stance persists throughout all racing. Leadership emerges during WGP as captain of the TRF Victorys team, emphasizing cooperative strategy over individualism.
His Mini 4WD journey starts with the Super Astute Jr. Subsequent vehicles form the Sonic series, prioritizing cornering stability and control over raw speed. Key machines are the Sonic Saber, received alongside Go's Magnum Saber from Dr. Tsuchiya. Initially white, Retsu personally designs its red and green scheme; it specializes in agile turns but is destroyed in volcanic lava confronting J's Proto Saber JB. Its direct upgrade, the Vanguard Sonic, retains its predecessor's strengths with enhanced capabilities and avoids destruction. The Hurricane Sonic, developed after analyzing Go's Cyclone Magnum, excels in high-speed drifting and serves as Retsu's primary machine through much of WGP. Later machines include the Buster Sonic, Blitzer Sonic, manga-exclusive Rodeo Sonic (a Sonic Saber redesign), Great BlastSonic, and CosmoSonic.
Significant development occurs through strategic decisions. A notable instance involves approaching antagonist Professor Oogami for technical knowledge to develop the Hurricane Sonic, exploiting Oogami's eagerness to prove battle machine superiority without defecting from conventional racing principles, demonstrating calculated risk-taking within his ethics. The sequel "Return Racers" depicts his adulthood career shift into space development, facilitated by Dr. Tsuchiya's recommendation, marking a departure from active racing while retaining technical and leadership foundations.
Relationships define key aspects. The sibling dynamic with Go involves frequent arguments and reconciliations, often centering on Retsu's teamwork versus Go's individualism. Despite conflicts, they share the nickname "Let's Go Brothers" and maintain a core belief in racing's honorable spirit. As TRF Victorys captain, he fosters team cohesion among members Ryo Takaba, Tokichi Mikuni, and J, guiding them through WGP international competitions. His mentorship extends to younger characters in later stories, reflecting inherent responsibility.
