Description
Orson D. Verne is a friend and fellow Freedom Space Corps fighter pilot who flies alongside Kei Katsuragi during the 2062 conflict. He participates in the mission to deploy the Space/Time Oscillation Bomb against the enemy orbital elevator. After the mission fails and Kei impulsively arms the bomb, the resulting dimensional explosion transports both men to a drastically altered future Earth, a fragmented world where multiple dimensions have merged.
Stranded in this merged reality, Orson eventually joins the militaristic Chilam faction. His goal is to rectify the dimensional chaos inadvertently triggered by Kei's actions. Rising within Chilam's command, he mentors the skilled pilot Athena Henderson, training her specifically to become a formidable opponent capable of challenging Kei.
A significant revelation uncovers that Athena is Orson's biological daughter, originating from an alternate timeline affected by the dimensional collapse. This connection adds a deeply personal dimension to his commitment to the conflict. Throughout the series, Orson actively aids Chilam's efforts to capture Kei, whom they identify as a "Tokuiten" (Singularity or Idiosyncratic Point), believing he is essential to restoring dimensional stability.
Orson's allegiance positions him as a direct antagonist to Kei, clashing over their opposing factions and methods for resolving the crisis. His history as Kei's comrade and their shared displacement creates underlying tension in their confrontations. He embodies the consequences of the dimensional war and the personal sacrifices made in attempting to repair the fractured world.
His strategic insights and mentorship of Athena significantly influence Chilam's tactical operations against the Emaan faction and their protected singularity, Kei. The relationship between Orson and Athena introduces themes of familial bonds transcending dimensional boundaries, further complicating the central conflict.
