Bruno J. Global began his career as an Italian naval officer before transferring to the Far East Navy under Brigadier General Takashi Hayase following the United Nations Government's formation. Rising through the ranks, he commanded the U.N. Navy submarine *Marco Polo* during the Unification Wars as a Colonel. Later, as captain of the Oberth-class space destroyer *Goddard*, he authorized the first documented use of reaction weapons in ship-to-ship space combat, destroying the hijacked *Tsiolkovsky*. These actions propelled his promotion to Brigadier General and command of the SDF-1 *Macross* fortress by 2009.
Married to Miho, a young Japanese woman, in March 2003 through matchmaking by Takashi and Mrs. Hayase, the childless couple treated Takashi's daughter, Misa Hayase, as their own. Global habitually smoked a pipe, a gift from his wife, to aid concentration, despite bridge regulations prohibiting it.
During the SDF-1 *Macross* launch ceremony on February 7, 2009, Global urged the Space Defense Council against initiating hostilities with potential alien species, causing his late arrival. Shortly after boarding, the ship's automatic defensive systems detected gravitational anomalies and fired on Zentradi scouts, igniting Space War I. Global ordered an untested spatial fold maneuver for escape, inadvertently transporting the *Macross* and surrounding Macross City to the solar system's edge. His wife, Miho, was reported lost in subsequent ground assaults.
Throughout the conflict, Global emphasized evasion over direct combat, formulating strategies with First Lieutenant Misa Hayase. A catastrophic failure of the *Macross*' omnidirectional barrier destroyed an Ontario city, creating a rift with U.N. leadership and leading to the ship's temporary exile from Earth. His command decisions included permitting the marriage between Zentradi defector Milia Fallyna and U.N. Spacy pilot Maximilian Jenius, a significant step towards peace, and establishing relations with Zentradi commander Vrlitwhai Kridanik despite military opposition.
After Space War I, Global transitioned to administrative roles in the reformed United Nations Government. He spearheaded reconstruction and designed the Humanity Seeding Project (also called the Human Emigration Project), a space colonization initiative to ensure human cultural survival against future extraterrestrial threats. Promoted to admiral and commander of the U.N. Spacy after Boddole Zer's main fleet defeat, he became U.N. Representative in 2014 before retiring as a full admiral. One of his final acts appointed Misa Hayase captain of the colonization vessel SDF-2 *Megaroad-01*.
His legacy includes a space port named after him in *Macross Plus* and the ship designation SDFN-4 Global in *Macross Frontier*. His character design influenced the appearance of Nemo in *Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water*. The fate of his wife Miho after the war and the meaning of his middle initial "J" remain uncertain across official media.
