Drum, also known as Fang Slade Terrestrial XIV, hails from Dragon World as the son of his clan's chief. He initially blazes with hotheadedness, stubbornness, and recklessness, struggling profoundly to adapt to the human world. This fuels frequent clashes over trivial matters with his assigned buddy, Gao Mikado. His friction with Gao stems from reluctance to acknowledge their partnership and deep-seated insecurities about living up to his father's legacy. As the chief's son, he battles self-doubt and an inferiority complex, feeling inadequate compared to teammates during tournaments. Witnessing others' competence intensifies these feelings, leading him to question his worth and temporarily abandon Gao for rigorous training across multiple worlds, facilitated by his father.
This dimensional journey forces personal growth. Leading allies through monster-infested caves in one world teaches him teamwork and strategic command, offering insight into Gao's leadership burdens. This marks the start of his maturation; he returns to Earth more selfless and committed to Gao. His burgeoning loyalty shines when he supports Gao against global opposition, like after the Gaen Cup, where his encouragement helps Gao regain confidence in a critical battle. Drum's development unlocks multiple transformative abilities: his Dungeon World form (Brave Drum), a Magic World form for spell-based combat, and a Thunder Knights form featuring a hoverboard-like buddy skill activated during a life-threatening fall. Later, he gains a Crimson Battler form distinguished by turquoise armor and cestus-style drills.
A pivotal arc sees him temporarily ascend as the Fifth Omni Dragon Lord after Tenbu's consumption by Yamigedo. Initially rejected by the Omni Cavalry Dragons due to perceived nepotism, he vows to hold the title only until Tenbu's rescue, proving his dedication. Through perseverance, he earns their respect, particularly winning over Alliot, who resented Drum's privileged background. As Omni Lord, his appearance shifts to ronin-themed armor with a horned helmet and large katana, later enhanced by the Cavalry Dragons for battles against Inverse Omni Lords. He contributes significantly to the final conflict against Yamigedo and Kyoya Gaen until petrification halts the fight.
In the "All-Star Fight" storyline, he participates in the Gao Genuine Gameface Tournament (GGG Cup), reuniting with Gao for competitive buddyfights alongside other major characters and monsters within this multi-world tournament framework. Across all media, Drum evolves from a self-centered dragon into a loyal, strategic ally who prioritizes the expectations of loved ones over personal glory or prestige.
