Description
Eleven-year-old Hayato Hayasugi lives in New Saitama City, born October 17, 2007. His deep passion for railways comes from his father, Hokuto Hayasugi, a Railway Museum employee and core developer at the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute's Shinkalion project. This influence forged Hayato into a dedicated rail fan with vast knowledge of obscure train facts; he often speaks in train metaphors that baffle others.

He initially wears a white t-shirt with a dark blue vertical stripe, green shorts, and green sneakers featuring pink outer soles. As pilot of Shinkalion E5 Hayabusa, he dons a distinctive green bodysuit with white sections and pink stripes, plus headphones with glowing green lines. The E5 requires high compatibility and uses a unique AI interface, Shashot, synchronizing with Hayato's movements in combat. This Shinkalion transforms at ultra-high speeds (1225 km/h), wielding a Turnstile Sword modeled after station barriers and a chest-mounted Gran Cross beam cannon deployed sparingly due to immense energy drain.

Hayato accidentally discovered SUEI's operations, becoming the E5 pilot after showing exceptional aptitude on a training app he mistook for a game. Despite initial institutional concerns about his age, his skills proved vital. Early challenges included physical combat, a fear of heights, and poor direction sense, though rigorous training honed his proficiency. His personality blends unwavering resolve with a strong moral compass: he fiercely defends others' dreams yet forgives those showing goodwill. This makes him a unifying team force, bridging former adversaries.

Throughout the series, Hayato pilots upgraded units like the E5 Hayabusa MkII, marked by gold accents and enhanced features including the Overhead Surveillance Drone Hayabusa. His leadership evolves facing the Kitoralsus and later extraterrestrial threats; his unique ability to exceed 100% compatibility sets him apart. In the "Shinkalion Z" timeline, his family moves to York, England, to support his and sister Haruka's aspirations, though he maintains SUEI ties and returns for critical missions. By his teens, he shows greater maturity and restraint while keeping his core railway passion and compassionate nature, ultimately entrusting SUEI's future to newer generations.

Key relationships include his parents Hokuto and Sakura, sister Haruka; friendships with fellow pilots Akita Oga (E6 Komachi) and Tsuranuki Daimonyama (E7 Kagayaki); and his partnership with AI Shashot. Crossover appearances feature interactions with Evangelion characters in a dream sequence and a physical cameo alongside the E5 in the Drive Head movie.
