Description
Gaito Kurouzu appears rough, antisocial, and cold, consistently pushing away friendly gestures from peers like Bal and Gao. This demeanor fuels and is fueled by an intense obsession with winning and proving himself the strongest, a destiny he believes in. His partnership with the Black Death Dragon Abygale cements this conviction, leading to an unbroken streak of Buddyfight victories. Though often mistaken for a card hunter, he actually retrieves stolen cards from bullies to return them to children, revealing a hidden sense of justice and protectiveness.

His journey began encountering the critically injured Abygale in Darkness Dragon World, attacked by the three-headed demonic dragon Azi Dahaka. Their shared desire for strength forged an immediate buddy bond. Gaito's early focus was solely on preparing for the World Buddyfight Championship (WBC). There, he reached the Best 8, defeating opponents like Wataru Kageo through strategic adaptability, including unveiling a second Impact Monster mid-match. His first loss to Gao Mikado in the WBC semifinals triggered a severe emotional breakdown, shattering his self-identity and leading to harsh self-punishment.

The pursuit of Dragon Force, a legendary power tied to a dragon's soul, became central. After obtaining it upon his 100th victory, he initially abused the power, berating Abygale for disobedience when the dragon hesitated to attack. This closed heart caused the Dragon Force to abandon him, intensifying his frustration when others like Gao and Tasuku Ryuenji manifested it later. A pivotal shift followed a subsequent loss; acknowledging his weak heart, he reawakened the Dragon Force through sadness, sincerely apologizing to Abygale and embracing gratitude for their partnership.

Post-Dragon Force, Gaito evolves significantly. While retaining intensity, he demonstrates increased cooperation, assisting Gao's group against threats like Dragon Drei and participating in team strategies. He confronts Kyoya Gaen alongside Tasuku in a 2-on-1 Buddyfight, wielding evolved Dragon Force abilities, though they lose to Kyoya's Dragon Drei. This defeat motivates joint training to prepare Gao for future battles. Gaito still displays discomfort in social crowds and embarrassment over showing concern, indicating lingering social challenges.

Key relationships define his development. His bond with Abygale transitions from instrumental to deeply mutual, marked by loyalty and shared resolve against adversaries like Azi Dahaka. Interactions with Gao shift from rivalry to reluctant respect and eventual alliance during the Dragon Drei conflict. His dynamic with Tasuku involves competitive clashes evolving into strategic collaboration, culminating in a decisive Buddyfight victory solidifying their partnership against Kyoya. Gaito consistently exhibits a soft spot for children, regularly aiding younger characters at Aibo Academy.

Physically, Gaito has purple eyes and shoulder-length purple hair, standing 135 cm tall. He harbors ailurophobia (fear of cats). Later arcs show him joining group endeavors, such as traveling to Los Angeles with Gao's team, reflecting integration despite initial isolation.
