Description
Atsushi Kinugawa is a serious and diligent third-year student at Binan High School, standing 180cm tall with dark blue hair reaching his collar and brown eyes behind his ever-present glasses. He serves as a core member of the Earth Defense Club. Academically, he ranks second in his year, surpassed only by Kinshiro Kusatsu, with whom he shares a complex past. They were once close childhood friends, exchanging nicknames "Kin-chan" and "Atchan," and sharing moments like stargazing where Atsushi expressed his dream of becoming a superhero. This friendship later fractured, leading to emotional distance. Concurrently, Atsushi forged a close bond with the laid-back En Yufuin, sparked by shared curry discount coupons. He has an older sister, though family details are limited.

Personality-wise, Atsushi exhibits thoughtfulness, assigning nicknames to friends. He possesses culinary skill, particularly with curry, and enjoys jigsaw puzzles, baths, and hot springs. Conflict often triggers hesitation, seen in arguments with En or flashbacks concerning Kinshiro. He harbors a fear of vaccinations.

As the Battle Lover "Piercing Prince, Battle Lover Epinard," he wields the power of wind/air, associated with green. His transformation phrase is "Live for love, die for love!" His battle attire features a prince-style design with six coat tails, green boots, and a heart-shaped jewel. His weapon, the "Gallant Hurricane" love stick, unleashes wind-based attacks like the "Epinard Hurricane."

His character development spans multiple arcs. Season 1 explores tensions with Kinshiro stemming from their fractured past, culminating in reconciliation by the season's end. Season 2 sees his role expand as he confronts new threats like the Beppu twins, showcasing battle adaptability. The OVA addresses his graduation alongside En and Kinshiro, marking a transition from high school. His journey includes moments of vulnerability, such as fainting when Kinshiro discovers a secret idol activity in a fanfiction scenario.

His name, "Atsushi" meaning "heat/history" and "Kinugawa" deriving from "demon/anger/river," ties to the Kinugawa Onsen resort, aligning with the series' hot spring theme. His childhood aspiration to be a superhero is realized through his Battle Lover role.
