Description
Atsushi Kinugawa, a third-year student at Binan High School, serves as a core member of the Earth Defense Club. He stands 180cm tall, notably one of the club's tallest members, with dark blue hair reaching his collar and long bangs covering his forehead. Glasses are a constant part of his appearance except during bathing. His standard uniform consists of a white shirt, black blazer, red tie, black pants, and brown shoes.

His history is deeply tied to a childhood friendship with Kinshiro Kusatsu, dating back to their early youth where they used the nicknames "Kin-chan" and "Atchan." This bond fractured when Atsushi prioritized using a 20% discount coupon for curry with En Yufuin over meeting Kinshiro, leading Kinshiro to feel rejected. Unaware this caused the rift, Atsushi subsequently grew closer to En, forming a lasting bond. His current interactions with Kinshiro remain polite yet distant, reflecting a lingering respect for their shared past.

Academically, Atsushi achieves high grades, ranking second in his class only to Kinshiro. His serious, hardworking personality contrasts with En's laid-back nature. He excels at cooking, particularly curry, and assigns affectionate nicknames like "En-chan." However, he exhibits hesitancy and passivity during confrontations, observed in disputes with En and flashbacks to conflicts with Kinshiro.

As a Battle Lover wielding the Wind element, he transforms into the Piercing Prince, Battle Lover Epinard. His transformation costume features a prince-style top with white puffed sleeves, green cuffs, six green-undercut coat tails, and a green bow centered by a winged heart jewel. It includes a frilly white undershirt, white gloves, tight white pants, and knee-high green boots. His weapon, the Gallant Hurricane, enables his "Epinard Hurricane" attack.

Atsushi has an older sister, referenced in childhood flashbacks where she advised him that a wish made thrice on a shooting star would come true, inspiring his youthful desire to become a superhero. Personal traits include an affinity for baths, hot springs, and jigsaw puzzles, alongside a fear of vaccinations.

His character arc resolves through reconciliation with Kinshiro in Season 1, where misunderstandings about their estrangement are clarified and their friendship restored. Throughout official media, his role emphasizes loyalty, reconciliation, and balancing his studious nature with his Battle Lover responsibilities.
