Description
Haruhiko Beppu arrives at Binan High School alongside his twin brother Akihiko as an exchange student, filling a vacancy left by the Conquest Club. Born August 21st under the Leo sign, he sports ice-blue hair, crimson eyes, and stands marginally taller than Akihiko. His minimalist, classic style features a light grey blazer, white formal shirt, and a distinctive light golden bow tie secured by a star-shaped silver ring with a red jewel – a deliberate contrast to his brother's flamboyance. Thicker eyebrows and hair swept right further set him apart visually.

Haruhiko wields a sharp tongue, bluntly declaring things "lame" or "trash," and struggles to mask emotions, frequently displaying overt anger or disdain – a stark counterpoint to Akihiko's controlled demeanor. Despite this harsh exterior, he demonstrates empathy, attentively listening to Bernardo Salvatore's sibling concerns. He manages stress through bonsai gardening and horseback riding, though frustration sometimes leads to aggressive branch clipping. While fiercely protective of Akihiko and quick to suggest aggression against rivals like the Earth Defense Club (especially Yumoto Hakone), he typically defers to his brother's leadership. He harbors deep, occasionally obsessive admiration for Gōra Hakone, Yumoto's older brother, rooted in childhood.

A pivotal childhood event shapes the twins: Gōra, as hero Maximum Gorar, saved them from a monster attack while they lived in the Andromeda Galaxy due to their father's job. This admiration led to bullying by aliens who viewed Earthlings negatively, deepening their isolation. After Gōra's show cancellation left them feeling abandoned, the alien squirrel Dadacha approached them. Dadacha offered fame as Galaxy Idols under the name VEPPer, promising it would attract Gōra. They reluctantly accepted, seeing idol work as a distasteful necessity for popularity, not genuine connection. They misinterpreted Gōra's parting advice ("make mischief if you must, but grow up big and strong") as justification for antagonistic actions, including creating monsters to attack the Battle Lovers.

Transforming as "Salty Sol" (representing fire and sun) in VEPPer, Haruhiko's sequence involves synchronized singing and dancing with Akihiko ("Melty Luna"), culminating in him holding his brother close. His primary weapon is an oversized pair of star-embellished scissors, referencing his bonsai hobby. These function as both physical weapons and energy conduits, usable in close combat or thrown like boomerangs. He collaborates with Akihiko to create "Loveless" monsters by launching Dadacha at victims. Haruhiko performs in VEPPer songs including their transformation theme "☆Star☆The☆VEPPer☆" and duets like "Anata wa Haruka Ittousei" and "Pure Revolution D.F.G."

His development centers on evolving relationships with Gōra and the Earth Defense Club. Initially, he and Akihiko exhibit contempt for the Battle Lovers, resenting Yumoto's bond with Gōra and dismissing fans as "apes." Their methods involve manipulating insecurities to create monsters, like transforming Alan Salvatore into the Chest Hair Monster to exploit his conflict with twin brother Bernardo. Their obsession drives antagonism; they drugged Yumoto and later trapped Gōra in a glass coffin, with Haruhiko expressing a desire to "share a room" with him. A turning point comes when Gōra acknowledges them. They abandon malice, redefine "Beppu Apes" as a positive fan nickname, respect their fans, transition into allies, reconcile with the Earth Defense Club, adopt a typical high school life, and participate alongside them in later conflicts.

Key relationships define Haruhiko. His bond with Akihiko is intensely close; they operate in near-perfect sync, often holding hands or leaning together, calling each other "Aki" and "Haru." Minor disagreements occur (e.g., Haruhiko finding Akihiko's wish to be slapped by Gōra "weird"), but fierce protectiveness prevails. Interactions with Yumoto Hakone feature open hostility, like crushing discount coupons Yumoto offers. His fixation on Gōra borders on stalking, mellowing to respectful admiration post-reconciliation. His dynamic with Italian twins Bernardo and Alan Salvatore highlights an understanding of complex sibling bonds, indirectly facilitating their reconciliation during the monster incident he instigated.
