Description
Originally a human princess named Laura (or Rola) approximately 600 years ago in an unspecified foreign kingdom, her extraordinary beauty earned her the title "Princess Beauty." Disillusioned by superficial admiration, she sought to reveal her inner self through a spell from an elderly witch. This inadvertently triggered a curse: anyone witnessing her radiant inner beauty felt compelled to commit suicide in her name, offering their lives or most valued possessions. The curse decimated her kingdom, including her parents. Before fully dying, the witch advised perpetual wandering to avoid human contact, leading her to adopt the name Acerola during her travels.

While wandering, Acerola encountered the pureblood vampire Deathtopia Virtuoso Suicide-Master at Corpse Castle. Admiring Deathtopia's independence, she requested vampiric transformation. Deathtopia named her "Kissshot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade": "Kissshot" referenced a cursed princess healed by a kiss; "Acerola-Orion" combined her alias with the hunter constellation Orion; "Heart-Under-Blade" symbolized a kind heart beneath a sword-like exterior. This name later inspired the kanji "Shinobu" (忍), formed by "heart" (心) under "blade" (刃). As a vampire, Kissshot became a legendary "King of Apparitions." Centuries later, during a visit to Japan, three hunters—Dramaturgy, Episode, and Guillotine Cutter—severed her limbs, leaving her near death under a streetlamp.

High school student Koyomi Araragi discovered her and offered his blood to save her, transforming him into her thrall and reverting her to a weakened, childlike form. To regain her power and restore Araragi's humanity, she tasked him with retrieving her limbs. After Araragi succeeded with Meme Oshino's mediation, Kissshot gradually regained her adult form. She revealed her true intent: to die by Araragi's hand to restore his humanity, mirroring her past failure with a previous thrall (Seishirou Shishirui). Araragi refused. With Oshino's compromise, he partially drained her power instead, leaving her permanently weakened in the body of an eight-year-old, reliant on Araragi's blood for survival and adopting the name Shinobu Oshino.

In this state, Shinobu initially retreated into muteness and isolation. Over time, she reconciled with Araragi, developing a deep bond where they shared emotions and senses. She resides in his shadow, rarely needing blood sustenance after "Tsubasa Cat." Her personality combines archaic speech patterns (referring to herself as "washi") with childish traits: she obsesses over Mister Donuts (especially Golden Chocolate) and uses nicknames for others (e.g., "tsundere girl" for Hitagi Senjougahara). Despite a haughty demeanor, she masks emotional fragility stemming from centuries of loneliness. She exhibits fierce loyalty and jealousy toward Araragi, fearing abandonment when her first thrall Seishirou resurfaces, though she ultimately chooses to stay with him. Her devotion is evident in alternate timelines; when Araragi died in one, she unleashed destructive jiangshi before weeping blood upon his return.

Shinobu's appearance fluctuates with her power level. Her primary form is an eight-year-old with golden eyes, blonde hair, and pointed ears, often in sleeveless dresses. By consuming Araragi's blood, she ages into adolescent or adult versions: her teenage form features a ponytail and modern attire like hoodies or school uniforms, while her true form is a voluptuous woman in a red-and-black dress with elongated hair and gloves. She is later adopted by Araragi and Senjougahara.
