Description
Karen Minazuki is a third-year student presiding over the student council at L'École des Cinq Lumières. Hailing from an affluent family, her musician parents are frequently away on tour, fostering underlying loneliness despite her popularity and wealth. An initial reluctance to express vulnerability or depend on others lessens as she forms deeper bonds with her friends.

Her alter ego is Cure Aqua, the Pretty Cure of Intelligence. She introduces herself as the "Blue Spring of Intelligence, Cure Aqua!", embodying water-based powers and a calm, analytical nature. Transformed, she has bright blue eyes and long, waist-length blue hair secured by a butterfly-shaped bow. Her costume features a cream-colored mini-dress with navy lining, opera-length gloves, and boots adorned with butterfly motifs. Upgraded forms like Super Cure Aqua or Rainbow Cure Aqua incorporate extended wings, scalloped layers, and feather-like accents.

Typically stoic and mature, Karen garners admiration for her composure, though stress occasionally reveals a sharper edge, as seen when criticizing Komachi’s indecisiveness. Her journey involves learning to rely on others; she initially masked her loneliness but gradually opens up through her experiences as a Pretty Cure, finding joy in teamwork. Protective instincts emerge prominently in crises, like shielding Milk, solidifying their close bond.

Key relationships define her growth. Komachi Akimoto is her best friend; their bond dates to their first year of middle school when Komachi inspired Karen during a difficult project. She also develops a nuanced friendship with Rin Natsuki—initially contentious due to contrasting personalities, they eventually find common ground. Her caretaker, Jii-ya, provides guidance. Demonstrating empathy as a doctor-in-training, she adapts her approach to build trust when treating patients like Nana Shinozaki.

In *Okashi no Kuni no Happy Birthday!*, Karen participates in Nozomi’s birthday before being transported to the Dessert Kingdom. During the conflict, Dry traps her and Rin in a refrigerator, turning them into ice cream. Their physical state breaks when sensing Cure Dream’s emotional distress, reigniting their resolve. As Cure Aqua, she combines her Sapphire Arrow attack with Cure Rouge’s to defeat Dry.

In the spin-off *Pretty Cure 5☆Reborn*, Karen appears as Cure Aqua in the dreams of Minazuki Kelly, later revealed to be her non-biological younger sister. Karen embodies the "light" to Kelly’s "darkness," encouraging her during battles against villains like Bash. Their reunion is emotional, with Karen expressing unwavering commitment to protect Kelly despite their differences.
