Description
Kamon, alias Kuchinawa, served as a senior disciple of the Kou Clan Manor roughly 900 years ago during the Heian era. He trained in onmyodo at a temple alongside Mao and others, mastering wood-element techniques that grant him command over trees, roots, and plant life for combat and strategy. His name "Kamon" means "Broken Rope," while "Kuchinawa" combines characters implying decay, seclusion, and rope.

He was absent the day the cat demon Byoki attacked the temple, returning to find devastation. Misled by Hyakka's false claim that Mao betrayed the clan and stole Byoki's power, Kamon joined a council in the Five-Sided Room where participants, including him, were charged with assassinating Mao.

Centuries later, operating as Kuchinawa, he infiltrated high society, manipulating influential figures with his powers to secure privilege and resources. During the Taisho era, he acted as butler for the serial killer Tanehiko Ibaraki, disposing of victims' bodies. When Tanehiko targeted the yokai girl Tenko, Kamon intervened, killing Tanehiko by ripping out his heart. This act coincided with Mao's arrival to save Tenko, leading to their reunion. They discussed unresolved events from 900 years prior, though Kamon lacked detailed knowledge of the past.

Kamon's actions are partly driven by his enduring love for Masago, a fellow water-element disciple who died long ago. Discovering the onmyoji Shiranui preserved Masago's corpse to exploit her lingering powers, Kamon harbors a grudge against Shiranui, whom he believes previously attempted to assassinate him at sea. He actively seeks to reclaim Masago's remains from Shiranui.

He operates with the aid of his shikigami, Beniko, who supports him much like Otoya aids Mao. Kamon occasionally allies with Mao against shared adversaries like Shiranui when their goals align, though their partnership remains opportunistic. His character displays pragmatism, shifting between societal manipulation, lethal intervention, and tactical alliances based on his objectives.

His wood-element affinity renders him vulnerable to metal-based techniques, reflecting the wuxing cycle where metal harvests wood. This inherent weakness shapes his tactical choices in conflict.
