Description
Chocolat Meilleure, the main protagonist and daughter of the late witch Cinnamon, lives with her powerful wizard grandfather, Corne, in the Magical World. Her familiar, a frog named Duke, is later revealed to be her uncle, transformed after he concealed Cinnamon during her flight.

She possesses an energetic, extroverted, and forceful personality, making her popular in the Magical World but less so with boys in the Human World due to her short temper and occasional violence. Despite this, she is deeply caring, loyal, and persistent toward those she holds dear. Her friendship with Vanilla Mieux remains a central constant, with both vowing their bond would endure despite their rivalry.

As a candidate for Queen of the Magical World, she is sent to the Human World under the alias Chocolat Kato to collect crystallized hearts from boys. She departs alongside Vanilla on Queen Candy’s orders, facing various trials in preparation. Initially, she struggles in the competition; her aggressive nature often yields yellow hearts of fear, while Vanilla’s shyness attracts more positive colors.

A significant part of her journey involves romantic feelings for Pierre, a mysterious boy revealed as the Prince of the Ogres. Their relationship is complicated by his initial antagonism and a period where she believes they might be siblings—a notion later disproven. They eventually develop mutual feelings. In the anime, they exchange hearts and share a kiss. In the manga, they go missing together after a final battle, suffering years of amnesia before returning in time for Vanilla’s coronation.

The competition concludes differently across media: in the anime, Vanilla wins but abdicates, making Chocolat Queen. In the manga, Vanilla wins and keeps the crown after Chocolat expressly wishes it so following their reunion. The anime also implies that marriage to Pierre would make Chocolat queen of the Ogres.

Her backstory is further defined by her parents’ legacy. Her mother, Cinnamon, was a previous Queen candidate who fell in love with the Ogre leader, Duke Glace, and had Chocolat before being forced to flee. She was ultimately turned into a cat as punishment. This heritage and its surrounding political intrigue form a significant part of the narrative.
