Description
Carnell is a character from the anime and light novel series Hell Mode. He holds the title of Viscount and is the lord of the Carnell territory, making him a noble of some standing within the kingdom's hierarchy. He is an adult male with blond hair, blue eyes, and is often depicted wearing a hat and a beard.

From a personality standpoint, Carnell is portrayed as a self-serving and calculating individual. He is driven more by ambition and the prosperity of his own house than by any sense of honor or familial duty. This is most clearly demonstrated through his treatment of his son, Kiel. When Kiel's five-year-old Appraisal Ceremony revealed he had the Talent of a Priest, Carnell did not celebrate or support him. Instead, he reacted with visible despair and subsequently sent the boy away to live in another city with minimal financial support, essentially abandoning him and denying him the education and status befitting a noble's son. His primary motivation appears to be the acquisition of power and wealth. He is known to covet the riches and resources of the neighboring Granvelle family, and he is willing to engage in political schemes and conspiracies to achieve his goals, including colluding with a royal envoy for his own benefit.

In the story, Carnell serves as an antagonist, particularly in the early arcs. His machinations against the Granvelle family create significant conflict, placing the protagonist, Allen, and his allies in danger. This includes orchestrating the kidnapping of Allen and Cecile Granvelle as part of his broader plot. His actions are the catalyst for his son Kiel's difficult circumstances, which in turn leads Kiel to forge his own path and eventually join forces with Allen's party. Through Kiel’s perspective, the narrative reveals the extent of Carnell’s neglect. The Viscount's scheme ultimately unravels, leading to the downfall of the Carnell family. This results in his son Kiel being given the opportunity to restore the family name after fulfilling a period of harsh duty for the kingdom.

In terms of notable abilities, Carnell is not primarily known as a frontline combatant but rather as a political player. His power stems from his authority, wealth, and the influence he wields as a territorial lord. He has the resources to employ knights and a network of allies that allow him to act against his rivals through subterfuge and force.
