Description
Hiroshi Hamada is a supporting character in the manga and anime series The Fable. He serves as the patriarch, or oyaji, of the Maguro-gumi, a yakuza clan operating out of the Taihei district in Osaka. His position places him at a high level of authority within the local criminal underworld.

In the story, Hamada is the one who agrees to provide shelter and protection for the legendary hitman known as The Fable, who has been ordered to lie low in Osaka for one year without committing any killings. Hamada gives the hitman and his female partner the aliases Akira and Yoko Sato, instructing them to pose as siblings. By offering his territory as a safe haven, Hamada takes on the risk and responsibility of hiding a high-profile operative from the Tokyo underworld, demonstrating his power and his willingness to accommodate powerful outsiders.

Hamada is not a central action-oriented figure but rather a representation of established yakuza authority. He oversees the clan's operations, with his second-in-command, Takeshi Ebihara, serving as his direct subordinate. While the protagonist, Akira (The Fable), must navigate the daily life and dangers of Osaka, Hamada's role is to maintain the overarching agreement that allows this to happen. He expects the hitman to follow the rules of his new quiet life, a task made difficult by the straightforward and sometimes tactless nature of his charge. His character provides the official, top-level connection between the protagonist and the Osaka criminal element, grounding the story within a structured yakuza hierarchy.
