TV-Series
Description
Shinichirō Yamamoto is a first-year student in the mechanical engineering department at Izu University, where he is classmates with Iori Kitahara and Kōhei Imamura. He is a minor character who is part of the group of friends surrounding the main protagonist.
In terms of physical appearance, Yamamoto has a short, somewhat chubby build and stands 162 centimeters tall. He has brown or red-brown hair that is parted in the middle and is shaved short at the neckline, giving him a unique and easily recognizable look. He is most often seen wearing casual clothes such as a plain t-shirt under a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
The core of Yamamoto's personality is defined by an overwhelming and passionate desire to get a girlfriend and lose his virginity. He becomes extremely excited at the prospect of meeting women and participates in group dates with intense determination, often setting a goal to lose his virginity by the end of the day. His enthusiasm, however, is coupled with a lack of subtlety and a tendency to act impulsively, which leads to a long string of awkward and comical failures. Because of his repeated misfortunes and immature behavior, his friends mockingly call him the king of virgins or a role model for virgins. Despite the constant teasing, he remains stubbornly persistent in his pursuit.
His primary motivation throughout the series is to escape his single status and gain romantic and sexual experience. This goal drives nearly all of his social actions, from attending mixers to instantly developing crushes on almost any woman he meets. For example, he falls head over heels for Nanaka Kotegawa the very first time he sees her at Iori's place. His desperation is further highlighted in several comedic anecdotes. On one occasion, he seriously fell in love with a virtual idol named SAKUYA, only to delete the application from his phone when he realized that a digital romance would not help him lose his virginity in real life. In another instance, he attempted to cheat on a test by writing notes on the label of a drink bottle, unaware that eating or drinking was prohibited during the exam, leading to a predictable and humiliating failure.
Within the story's social circle, Yamamoto plays the role of a close friend and frequent source of comic relief. His small apartment serves as a common hangout spot for his classmates, solidifying his place within the group. He has a strong friendship with Iori Kitahara and Kōhei Imamura, with whom he shares most of his misadventures. His relationship with another classmate, Yū Mitarai, is somewhat more complicated, as Yamamoto openly resents the fact that Mitarai has a girlfriend while he does not. Throughout the series, Yamamoto does not undergo significant personal development, remaining consistently focused on his goal with the same level of clumsy enthusiasm that defines his character from the start. His notable abilities lie not in any skill or talent, but in his incredible capacity for self-generated comedic misfortune and his unwavering, albeit awkward, determination.
