Description
Kyōka Igarashi is a central figure in The World's Strongest Rearguard - Labyrinth Country's Novice Seeker. She is originally from Earth, where she held the position of a section chief and was the direct supervisor of the protagonist, Arihito Atobe. Known as a workaholic with a slave-driving and demanding nature, she was considered the scariest person in Arihito's life during his time as a corporate salaryman.

After a fatal bus accident, both Kyōka and Arihito are reincarnated into the Labyrinth Country, a world where reincarnators must take on jobs and form parties to fight monsters in labyrinths. In this new world, Kyōka is described as a cool beauty, a trait she carried over from her previous life, where she was also known for being on the dance team. Her personality remains consistent with her past life, as she quickly seeks out Arihito upon their arrival in the new world, expecting him to work under her leadership once again.

Kyōka’s primary motivation in the story stems from her established dynamic with Arihito. When he declines her offer to join her party, citing her demanding nature, she becomes determined to make him regret his decision, vowing to prove the value of her partnership. Her role is deeply intertwined with Arihito, acting as a catalyst for his initial actions and a persistent presence from their shared past. Despite their fraught history, she becomes a member of his party, and the narrative explores their complex working relationship. The two share a room, though Kyōka is noted to have trouble sleeping when facing Arihito, indicating a layer of unspoken tension and intimacy in their daily life.

The development of Kyōka is closely tied to her reincarnation. She transitions from a demanding corporate manager in one world to a fellow Seeker in another, yet her core drive and personality remain recognizable. Her relationship with Arihito evolves from that of a strict superior and subordinate to partners who must rely on each other to survive in a dangerous fantasy setting. The story follows her as she navigates this new life, carrying her old habits and expectations into a world that requires teamwork and trust. The official English description of the manga highlights that Arihito's choice to become a rearguard, a support class, sheds new light on what it means to support one's partners, a theme that directly impacts his evolving dynamic with Kyōka.
