Description
Pulga is a reindeer who serves as the closest companion to the young protagonist, Kamu, in the story of Chibikko Kamu no Bōken. Raised alongside Kamu almost like a sibling, Pulga shares a deep and enduring bond with the boy, accompanying him on the perilous journey to find the legendary life-giving herb, Inochi no Kusa, to cure Kamu’s ailing mother.

In terms of personality, Pulga is characterized by a spirited and often impulsive nature. The character is notably quick-tempered and prone to acting without thinking, which frequently leads to trouble. This fiery disposition is balanced by a strong sense of loyalty and courage, as Pulga remains steadfastly devoted to Kamu despite these personal flaws. While Kamu is portrayed as brave but with a level-headed sensibility, Pulga is the more volatile member of the pair, described as both an "angry" and "hasty" individual whose enthusiasm can sometimes be a liability.

Pulga’s role in the story is that of a vital partner and support for Kamu. As a reindeer, Pulga serves as Kamu’s primary mode of transportation across the vast northern wilderness. More than just a mount, Pulga is an active participant in the adventure, facing dangers directly alongside Kamu. The character’s primary motivation is tied to Kamu’s quest; Pulga seeks to help his friend save his mother and later uncovers the fate of Kamu’s missing father. This loyalty drives Pulga to take great risks, such as rushing ahead to confront obstacles like a large mountain goat, a decision that inadvertently leads to Kamu falling from a cliff and the two companions being separated.

Throughout the narrative, Pulga undergoes significant hardship and development. One of the most notable events is when the pair travels through a terrifying thicket of thorny brambles, during which Pulga loses its large, branching antlers. This physical loss marks a turning point in the journey. Later, driven by a desperate need to help Kamu, Pulga rushes toward the Black Lake in search of the life-giving herb. However, unable to withstand a powerful thirst, Pulga drinks from the lake’s enchanted water and is immediately transformed into a cold, lifeless stone. This tragic event serves as a major catalyst for Kamu, who must then find a way to break the magic of the Black Lake and rescue his faithful friend.

Despite the character’s prominent role as the protagonist’s best friend, specific details regarding Pulga’s distinct abilities beyond serving as a ride and a fierce combat companion are not extensively detailed. The character’s primary strengths lie in loyalty, speed, and a fierce, if sometimes misguided, courage that drives the action forward.
